Technical Notes:

* This version of Lyall e-Log was created using Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003 and maintained using Microsoft Expressions Web 12.0.

Though this site is safe, it does use JavaScript and ActiveX protocol that may require you to allow these applications to run upon startup. Some pages may also show that one of these applications is required though the basic functionality should work in either case.

* Lyall e-Log has been tested using Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or greater.

Earlier versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer (4.0 and 5.0) and other applications (i.e. Netscape) should work the basic features, but may not display curtain features as intended. If you experience screen graphics errors and/or background, link buttons alignment problems - Than it would be recommended to open individual documents from within the Table Of Contact page.

* Lyall e-Log will look and operate better using a monitor set for 1280 x 1024, but is not necessary.

* Note to users running Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 (or higher) – This version of Explorer allows the text within the site to change in size for easier reading, unfortunately the way in which Lyall e-Log was created, having the text view set at any value higher than “Medium” will cause misalignment of various features within the catalog. If you are experiencing view problems (i.e. the text on the page Tabs are not fully visible) than from the menu bar, select View / Text Size and change the setting to Medium or Smaller

* Adobe Reader (PDF) files where created using Adobe Acrobat 6.0 and tested with Adobe Reader 5.0, 6.0 and 7.0.

 Password Protection:

Some documents within Lyall e-Log are classified as sensitive or confidential; therefore these files require a password to open and/or manipulate the text.  Most of the files are only protected from someone changing or copying the data, so most users will be able to open and print the files without needing a password.

Password protection is embedded within the data file, so the file will remain protected when accessed without the use of Lyall e-Log.

Protected documents may require a different password to open and/or edit. For security reasons, the password for protected documents may change periodically.

Note to Adobe Reader 4.0 and earlier - You may experience problems with documents that require a password to open  the document, in this case you will need to download and install Adobe Reader 5.0 or higher.

If you are experiencing problems with Adobe Reader 5.0 or higher, contact Lyall so we can send you another version of the protected file.

Please contact your Lyall representative or Customer Service obtaining document passwords and/or a version of Lyall e-Log that requires no passwords.

Product Description

What is Lyall e-Log:

Lyall e-Log is an electronic version of the standard Lyall product catalog and is nothing more than a "flashy" front-end that allows you to navigate through the various documents and product information available. Most of the product documents are saved as Adobe Reader (PDF) files and will require Adobe Reader 5.0 or higher to view or print the file.

The basic idea behind Lyall e-Log is to emulate looking through the standard Lyall product catalog. Finding information is easy if you understand the basic architecture of Lyall e-Log. Like a 3-ring binder, the product literature is organized within different product sections, separated by tabs.

There are only two main components of Lyall e-Log; the Section Tabs, and Product Pages.

Section Tabs:

NOTE: Any underlined text (that is blue or purple) below will show you an illustration of the the topic.

Section Tabs are used to separate the various types of products within the binder. This is designed to help reference where you are within the catalog. These Section Tabs are labeled by the product type (Gas Risers, Fittings, Valves, etc.) and are located on either end of the binder.  Click Here for example.

To turn to a section, simply click a tab found at the edge of each section page.

Like a physical binder, as you turn to another section, the tabs you have passed will be to the left side of the binder, and in this case are "yellow" in color.

Helpful Tip: You can flip to any Section Tab from anywhere in the catalog. You can also flip back to a previous section by clicking on one of the yellow tabs found on the left side of the binder. Again, this is just like going through a real catalog, but without getting your fingerprints all over the pages.

Product listing: Located on each of the Section Tab page, is an index of Lyall products within the Section Tab. By selecting any of the links listed will open to the corresponding product page.

Example:  If you are searching for data for LYCOFIT Mechanical Fittings, you would first select the Section Tab marked FITTINGS. From there select LYCOFIT Mechanical Fittings.

Helpful Tip: On some of the Product Tab pages there is a separate box that holds links to products that may relate to what you're looking. These links will take you directly to the Section Tab or Product Page where you can find the product information.

Product Pages:

Product pages are where you find the information related to the product being viewed. The basic layout of each product page remains the same throughout the catalog, with the product name, a picture or product brochure on the right and Product Information Links are to the left side of the binder.

Each Section Tab holds numerous Product Pages, so like a physical catalog you have the option of flipping through the product pages or clicking on the Section Tab to return to the product listing within the section.

Helpful Tip: Click on the Next >>> link, to advance to the next product page in this section. The last product page within the section will not have a Next >>> link, you can either select the section tab to return or click on the <<< Previous link to go back to the last product page viewed.

Product Information Links - On each Product page, links are provided to the left (positioned over the yellow section) where you can select the product information you are looking for. Typical Product Information links are labeled as Brochure, Photo Gallery, Part Numbers, etc... Based on the type of product, additional information links are provided such as Protective Coating options, Sample Drawings, and Additional Information on other related products.

Note: Active product information links are color blue (or color purple), plus your cursor will change when you roll over it. If the text is color gray, means that the information is not currently available for viewing.

Notes about Buttons and Links:

Lyall e-Log uses several types of links throughout its pages that can be used to open documents or navigate through the binder. Most links are identified as underlined text. In most cases, your cursor will change when you roll over an available link.

General rules regarding the links found in Lyall e-Log:

1) Active text links are in color blue (or color purple), your cursor will change when you roll over it.

2) If the link text is color gray, means that the information is not currently available.

3) On Product Pages, all product information links are found in the yellow section.

4) At the top of each page there are two (2) links, a picture (icon) of a binder and the word HOME:

Clicking on the Binder icon will take you back to the BEGINNING OF CATALOG

HOME    Clicking on the word "Home" will take you back to the Lyall website's HOME PAGE

5) At the bottom of each page are three (3) link buttons:

www.rwlyall.com - This button will open Lyall's website starting at the home page.

Table of Contents - This button opens an index of products listed within (similar to a sitemap).

?Catalog Help? - This button opens Lyall e-Log's help screen.

TYPICAL QUESTIONS - Below are some of the typical questions that you may have, along with an explanation or helpful hint to help you with this program.

Why does the text seem to wrap or is not fully visible?

If you are running Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 (or higher), this version of Explorer allows the text within the site to change in size for easier reading, unfortunately the way in which Lyall e-Log was created, having the text view set at any value higher than “Medium” will cause misalignment of various features within the catalog.

If you are experiencing view problems than from the Explorer Menu Bar, select View / Text Size and change the setting to Medium or Smaller.

I can't see the entire page without scrolling?

Lyall e-Log was created to prevent very little scrolling required to view the various links and options available. However, some vertical scrolling may be required to view the bottom links on the page.

If you are having to scroll left or right to see the entire width, make sure the window running Lyall e-Log is maximized, by clicking on the min/max button in the upper right corner of the Explorer window.

Lyall e-Log was created to work best on a monitor set for 1280 x 1024 for allowing for less scrolling, enhance photo images, etc... This monitor size is not required, but is only a suggestion to help view the program easier.

If switching monitors is not an option, then it is recommended to use the Table Of Contents:

Adobe PDF files are having problems opening.

1) Try downloading and installing the latest version of Reader (it's Free from www.Adobe.com).

2) Many of the PDF files are large files and may take longer than usual to open. This tends to be the case for at least the first file you open per session and the speed should improve as you open additional files.

HELPFUL HINT: Some users have found that if they open Adobe Reader (with or without a file open), before opening your first PDF file within Lyall e-Log will allow these files to open much faster.

To see if this helps your situation, first <click> on the OpenReader link below, this will open a small PDF file (a blank page) and should open fairly quick. Minimize the Adobe window (don't close it) and then click on the TextFile link below.

          Step 1) OpenReader

          Step 2) TestFile

If this test file opens faster then other attempts, then you will need to <click> on the Open-Reader link (found at the bottom of each Product Page) prior to opening your first PDF file per Lyall e-Log session.

How do I keep from getting lost between all the pages?

There are only a few types of pages used to navigate through Lyall e-Log, each of these pages have a link button (Binder Icon) back to the Lyall e-Log Welcome page where you can start over. You also have the option of clicking on any of the Blue or Yellow Product Section tabs that will get you back to the product section.

Additional Help: How Lyall e-Log works and/or Section Tabs/Product Page definitions.

To help from getting lost within the various pages or having several windows popping up, the following rules apply:

1) When flipping through the catalog using the Tabs or clicking on Next>> or <<Previous links, the catalog operates in the same Internet Explorer window.

2) Product documents marked with (PDF) will open in a separate window. This was done intentionally so you can print the file or revisit this information at another time without losing your spot in the catalog. You can switch between these windows by switching between browser's windows or simply close the document window to return to Lyall e-Log.

3) Product Photo Galleries also open in a separate Internet Explorer window. When you click on a image within the gallery, the enlarged photo remains with the galleries window, clicking on the Back icon or Back Space key will return you to the gallery.

Scripts

Though this site is safe, it does use JavaScript and ActiveX protocol that may require you to allow these applications to run upon startup. Some pages may also show that one of these applications are required though the basic functionality should work in either case.

HINT: Corrective action for this is to click on the warning message (usually a yellow bar toward the top of your Explorer tool bar) and Allow Scripts and Active Controls to run.
